Nothing warms the heart like receiving a personal letter from your loved ones on Mother`s Day. 💌 LancasterHistory`s newest addition to the archives is a collection of research notes and personal documents from the family of John Hertzler Hollinger and his wife, Mary Jenkins Hollinger, gathered by descendant Elizabeth Farmer Jarvis. Notable among this collection of ephemera, original documents, research notes, and correspondence is a collection of letters written by Mary Louise Hollinger and her father, John Hertzler Hollinger, to Mary Louise’s mother, Mary Jenkins Hollinger, while on a month-long trip out west in 1939.
The letters give great details of their travels—from altitude sickness in the Rocky Mountains to seeing the Grand Canyon and Old Faithful to all the car troubles along the way—and they are all written on vintage hotel stationery.
